Sri Lanka, July 23 -- The shooting at a house near the Devundara Devalaya in Matara on Tuesday night (21) is suspected to have been the result of an underworld feud between two rival groups.

The incident follows a dispute over this year's Devundara Devalaya procession after the Basnayake Nilame allegedly received death threats over a decision to reduce the number of Kavadi dance groups. The threats were reportedly made using the alias "KPI," associated with underworld figure Kanjipani Imran.

In response, audio recordings reportedly released by rival gang leader "Dehibale Malli" surfaced on social media, threatening Imran.

Later that night, an unidentified gunman arrived in a car and opened fire at a house about 200 metres from the Devala...
