Sri Lanka, April 27 -- The Health and Mass Media Ministry provided an Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) machine and a Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) machine, worth Rs. 425 million, to the National Hospital in Kandy as part of a programme to improve physical resources in the health service.
The two machines will be used to treat patients from this week.
The ESWL machine, valued at Rs. 208 million, is used to treat stones in the urinary system without surgery or other invasive procedures. It uses high-frequency shock waves to break stones into small fragments, allowing them to pass out of the body with urine.
