IUSF students occupy ownerless "Malwana estate house"
Sri Lanka, May 15 -- Members of the Inter-University Students' Federation (IUSF) entered and occupied the controversial house located on a 16-acre land in Malwana, said to belong to former Minister, Basil Rajapaksa, demanding it be repurposed for public and university use.
The Pugoda Magistrate's Court previously declared it a "no-owner" asset. The property was later reported to be taken over by the State, specifically falling under the jurisdiction of the Justice Ministry.
The students have demanded that the land and building be officially allocated for public use and to address the severe space limitations faced by universities, which has been declared as ownerless land, and the property stolen from the public.
