Sri Lanka, June 24 -- Transportation in the area has come to a complete standstill due to severe soil erosion near the bridge across the Radavi Bandi Ela on the main road leading to Nawagattegama from Anamaduwa via Thonigala and Uriyawa. The road running across the Radavi Bandi Ela, which carries water from the Mi Oya to the Thabbowa Reservoir, was split in two due to the recent severe floods.

Owing to this disaster, residents of Radavi Bandi Ela and several surrounding villages have been unable to reach Nawagattegama Town for their daily livelihood activities and official purposes. School children in the area have been unable to attend school, severely disrupting their education.
