The incident involved the Iranian naval frigate IRIS Dena, which sent a distress call at around 5:10 AM approximately 40 nautical miles off the coast of Galle. In response, the Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force launched a joint search and rescue operation, reaching the scene by approximately 6:00 AM.
