Sri Lanka, Aug. 27 -- Iran and Oman have agreed to work on a temporary shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz as part of efforts to restore maritime traffic through the strategic waterway, which has remained effectively closed since the war in Iran began in February.

Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met in Tehran on Tuesday to discuss a phased framework for managing shipping through the strait. According to a joint statement, the two sides discussed a plan that could provide "a practical and implementable basis for moving forward."

The proposed arrangement includes a joint temporary navigational corridor as well as a project to clear mines from the waterway. The two countries are ...
