SriLanka, Sept. 10 -- Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Chairman of Selectors Kapila Wijeygunawardene says the selection committee's main objective is to field the best team available, while carefully managing injuries and building a settled squad for the next World Cup.

"Our main objective is to make the best team available. Some of our key players are injured, so we have to pick them subject to fitness. We always give our best effort with selections," Wijeygunawardene said at a media briefing on selections yesterday at the SLC Headquarters.

He acknowledged that the limited number of vacancies in the national teams meant the selectors could not accommodate every player who was performing well.
