Srilanka, Oct. 3 -- Wildlife officials have provided treatment to a 40-year-old elephant that sustained an injury after a wire became embedded in one of its legs near the Somawathiya Rajamaha Viharaya, and have removed the wire from the injured leg.

Wildlife officials said the elephant had previously been treated after sustaining an injury in the vicinity of the Somawathiya Rajamaha Viharaya and had recovered following treatment.

The elephant was identified again on September 30 while it was staying in the Kammekurak Godaweli area. Subsequently, a team including veterinary surgeon Dr. Samara Kalindu Arachchi of the Girithale Veterinary Office and officers of the Somawathiya Wildlife Range Office provided treatment to the animal.
