Initiative to digitise 3.5 Mn historical land records dating back to 1800
Sri Lanka, June 3 -- The Government on Monday decided to approve a major digital land registry initiative to digitise 3.5 million historical land records dating back to 1800.
Presented by Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation Minister Lal Kantha, the project aims to drastically enhance land management efficiency and state-level decision-making across Sri Lanka. Out of an estimated 16 million total land parcels in the country, around six million have been surveyed so far, with only 2.5 million currently available in a digitised format.
This existing digital data has already been integrated into a centralised Land Information System and made publicly accessible via the official website of the Survey Department of Sri Lanka.
