Sri Lanka, June 12 -- The National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) in Angoda has been designated a WHO collaborating centre for training and research on dengue management.
The NIID is the first hospital in Sri Lanka to be honoured with this prestigious status by the WHO, marking a significant milestone in the country's healthcare sector.
The NIID's designation as a training and research center is for a four year period. The WHO has outlined several targets the Institute must achieve during this four-year tenure.
The NIID will be required to submit annual progress reports to the WHO. The institution's status as a WHO collaborating centre will be renewed for the subsequent four years only if these targets are successfully met.
