House disrupted by Opposition's sudden request for debate on judicial vacancies
Sri Lanka, June 24 -- A letter signed by Opposition members requesting an urgent Parliamentary debate was handed over to Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne in Parliament yesterday (23) morning.
The opposition has pointed out in its letter that Parliament should intervene to immediately find solutions to the structural issues that have arisen in the judiciary.
The letter stated that the current vacancies in the justice institutions have created serious practical problems in the efficient, independent and orderly performance of their functions.
