Sri Lanka, Aug. 7 -- The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has warned that the recent spell of heavy rainfall has heightened the risk of landslides and rockfalls in areas previously affected by Cyclone Ditwah, prompting the extension of existing landslide early warning notices.Time & Calendars

Speaking to the media yesterday (6), NBRO senior scientist Dr.Wasantha Senadeera said that although rainfall had eased on Tuesday and Wednesday in several Divisional Secretariat divisions where evacuation-level red warnings had earlier been issued, the ground remains heavily saturated, leaving those areas vulnerable to landslides even after light showers.
