Heavy showers expected in several areas as low-pressure system persists
Sri Lanka, May 16 -- The Department of Meteorology says the low-pressure area located northeast of Sri Lanka continues to persist, bringing cloudy skies and showers to several parts of the island.
In its weather forecast issued at 5.30 a.m. today (16), the department said it is continuously monitoring the behaviour, development and movement of the system.
According to the forecast, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Northern provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.
Fairly heavy rainfall of about 75 mm is expected at some places in these areas.
