Heavy rains above 50 mm expected in several areas today
Sri Lanka, May 21 -- The Department of Meteorology says the South-West monsoon is gradually establishing over Sri Lanka, bringing showers and strong winds to several parts of the island.
According to the weather forecast issued at 5.30 a.m. today (21), showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some places in these areas.
Several spells of showers are also expected in the Northern Province and the Anuradhapura District.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.
