Health officials warn of extreme heat, call for precautions
Sri Lanka, Aug. 19 -- Health authorities have issued a caution over rising temperatures across the country, warning that outdoor workers and farmers in high-risk areas face particular danger during peak sun hours.
Specialist Dr.Inoka Suraweera said the Meteorology Department has identified 11 am to 3 pm as the period of highest risk and urged the public to avoid unnecessary sun exposure during this time. She advised drinking plenty of water, wearing lightweight, light-coloured clothing, and using a hat to shield the head from direct sunlight. She added that elderly individuals and those with chronic illnesses must take their prescribed medication on schedule.
