Sri Lanka, June 24 -- The Colombo High Court yesterday upheld the sentence imposed on Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera by the Colombo Magistrate's Court for insulting Islam making a statement at a media conference held in Colombo in 2016.

Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne issued the order while dismissing the appeal filed by Ven. Gnanasara seeking his release against the sentence imposed against him by the Colombo Magistrate's Court.

The police had filed a case against Ven.Gnanasara Thera under Section 291(a) of the Penal Code, alleging that he acted in a manner that violated the spirit of brotherhood among nations by criticizing the Islam at a media conference held in the Kirulapone area...
