Sri Lanka, July 11 -- Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) Batticaloa District MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam told Parliament that the Colombo Port City was promised to bring in an investment of US$ 15 billion and more than 80,000 jobs, but due to the lack of sufficient opportunities and investments, a large number of young Sri Lankans are leaving the country.

He made this statement in the House yesterday (10) when he presented questions to the Finance Minister regarding the Colombo Port City under Standing Order 27/2.

Rasamanickam said that members of the Colombo Port City Commission are paid over a million rupees monthly as salaries and questioned whether with such a high salary, is there any income and investment from the Port City?
