Sri Lanka, Oct. 5 -- Hambantota International Port has officially crossed the 1-million-TEU Container handling milestone, processing 1,002,232 20-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) from 2025 to date, the Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) announced in a statement.
Following the commissioning of quay Crane operations in 2025, the Port experienced rapid growth, handling 428,036 TEUs in 2025 and an additional 574,196 TEUs to date in 2026.
Commenting on the milestone, HIPG Chief Executive Officer Wilson Qu stated that surpassing 1 million TEUs is a significant achievement for the Port.
