Sri Lanka, Aug. 5 -- Central Province's Senior DIG Lalith Pathinayake said that personal reputations built over decades are being destroyed in an instant by certain individuals on social media, and that everyone from the President to the ordinary citizen has become a victim of this.
He said that although the abolition of the criminal defamation law can be described as a step forward for democracy, some individuals are using it as an advantage to commit criminal defamation through social media.
The DIG made this statement at a seminar organised by the Kandy Regional Office of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka to mark the International Day for the Prevention of Torture and Protection of Victims.Travel Guides & Travelogues
