Sri Lanka, Aug. 10 -- The Grama Niladhari Trade Union Alliance stated that its members will report sick and abstain from work today (10) and tomorrow (11), over several demands including the failure to increase their travel allowance.
Accordingly, the trade union alliance has also decided to completely boycott all meetings, except for the general division day meeting, particularly events and programmes attended by political authorities.Government policy updates
Addressing a media briefing held yesterday (9) in Colombo regarding this matter, the Chairman of the Grama Niladhari Trade Union Alliance, Nandana Ranasinghe, stated that the Rs. 600 travel allowance provided to Grama Niladharis has not been increased for eight years.
