Sri Lanka, May 15 -- The Government has launched a special programme to purchase the Nuwara Eliya potato harvest at a guaranteed price of Rs. 220 per kilogram, aiming to stabilise the local market and support upcountry farmers.

The initiative began on May 10 at the Blackpool Cooperative Agricultural Produce Collection Center in Nuwara Eliya under the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development.

Under the programme, potatoes are being purchased directly from farmers at the fixed price of Rs. 220 per kilogram, with a daily limit of 1,000 kilograms per farmer to ensure fair participation and wider access for producers.
