Sri Lanka, June 27 -- President Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday said that the Government is duty bound to protect members of armed forces and the police who carry out their duties in the interest of national security, the freedom of people and the protection of state.

"I wish to state clearly that, from the ordinary soldier at the lowest rank to Army Commander and from the police constable on the ground to the Inspector General, if any action has been taken in defence of this country, its people and the security of the state, then we, as a Government, are duty-bound to protect and uphold every such action".
