Sri Lanka, March 26 -- Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Watagala has instructed the police to conduct unconditional raids on locations where fuel is being illegally hoarded.

Speaking to the media after attending the Thimbirigasyaya Divisional Coordination Meeting, the Deputy Minister said authorities had received information that certain parties were stockpiling fuel illegally.

Watagala said the police had been directed to strictly inspect such locations and take immediate action through raids.

He noted that the country is currently experiencing a fuel shortage due to the prevailing wartime situation, adding that available fuel stocks are expected to last until May.
