Srilanka, July 4 -- Four residents of Gallelle, Kaduruwela, who pleaded guilty to charges of illegally entering the Flood Plains National Park and collecting peacock eggs and disturbing the breeding of protected wildlife, were fined Rs.310,000 by Polonnaruwa Magistrate K. G. D. S. Gunawardena.

The case was filed by officers attached to the Manampitiya Wildlife Office of the Polonnaruwa Wildlife Range Office.

Court proceedings revealed that the accused had unlawfully entered the national park carrying weapons and were found in possession of three peacock eggs that were close to hatching.
