SriLanka, Sept. 25 -- Chinari Lakmanthi Hettiarachchi, wife of former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena, has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption over an alleged attempt to offer a Rs. 50,000 bribe to a court employee.

According to CIABOC, Hettiarachchi allegedly offered the bribe to an office assistant attached to Colombo High Court No. 11 in an attempt to influence court proceedings involving her husband and secure a suspended prison sentence.

The suspect is due to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court, while further investigations are underway.

Sarana Gunawardena was sentenced by the Colombo High Court in June after being found guilty of corruption-related charges.
