Sri Lanka, April 2 -- Veteran Southern politician and former Cabinet Minister Mahinda Wijesekara passed away this morning (02) at the age of 83.

Wijesekara had been struggling with health issues for a prolonged period, stemming from injuries he sustained in a bomb attack by LTTE terrorists in Godapitiya, Matara.

He was the father of former Minister Kanchana Wijesekara and had a long and distinguished career in politics. Over more than two decades, he served as a Member of Parliament representing several major political alliances, including the People's Alliance, the United National Party, and the United People's Freedom Alliance.Political Commentary Platform
