Sri Lanka, July 9 -- The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) arrested former Cabinet Minister Jagath Pushpakumara over several corruption allegations yesterday (8).

According to the Commission, one of the allegations relates to the 2014 Uva Provincial Council election period, during which the former Minister allegedly instructed the Chilaw Plantations Company and the Kurunegala Plantations Company to print 250,000 posters and leaflets purportedly to raise public awareness of Government development projects.

CIABOC alleges that this directive resulted in a combined expenditure of Rs. 2.665 million by the two state-owned plantation companies.
