Sri Lanka, March 24 -- The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the appointment of an expert committee, chaired by Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, to prepare a framework for developing the national energy economy.

The government has emphasized the importance of exploring new and predictable approaches to achieve sustainable economic growth. Although the energy sector is a priority, investment has been limited due to weak integration among major economic sectors.

In line with the 2026 Budget, the committee will design a framework that aligns national policies, strategies, and outcome-delivery mechanisms, aiming to promote coordinated economic development and encourage greater investment in the energy sector.
