Sri Lanka, June 16 -- The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) yesterday (15) arrested a personal secretary of ex-Southern Province Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal in connection with an alleged corruption case involving a multi-million-rupee public procurement project.

The suspect was taken into custody by the Commission following an inquiry into the procurement and distribution of chairs funded through Southern Provincial Council allocations in 2019.

According to investigators, the Southern Province Development Authority, which functioned under the Chief Ministry, implemented a Rs. 16.5 million programme to provide chairs to public voluntary organisations across the province. It is alleged that establis...
