EV smart charging to support Lanka's power system in an era of electric mobility

Electric vehicles (EV) is gradually becoming a common sight on the roads of Colombo and other major urban centres in Sri Lanka, reflecting the beginning of a significant transition in the country's transport sector.
EV adoption can significantly contribute to reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels, thereby improving energy security and reducing exposure to volatile global fuel prices. The environmental impact of electric vehicles depends on the source of electricity used for charging. Therefore, there is a growing focus on integrating renewable energy into EV charging, to reduce the overall greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
