Sri Lanka, March 27 -- Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody has been indicted by the Colombo High Court over allegations of corruption during his tenure at the Ceylon Fertilizer Company in 2016. The case, filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), accuses Jayakody of influencing a procurement process for carpeting the Hunupitiya warehouse, causing a loss of Rs. 8,859,708 to the State while benefiting a private company.Sri Lanka Exports
Jayakody appeared before Judge Rashantha Godawela and was released on two personal bail bonds of Rs. 1 million each. The court also ordered the collection of his fingerprints and the submission of a formal report. A pre-trial conference has been scheduled for May 6.
