SriLanka, May 9 -- The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka has approved an 18% increase in electricity tariffs for domestic consumers using more than 180 units per month, with the revised rates set to take effect from Monday (May 11).
The tariff revision will apply during the second and third quarters of 2026.
However, the commission stated that electricity charges for domestic users consuming below 180 units per month will remain unchanged.
According to the PUCSL, the decision was taken in view of an estimated revenue shortfall of nearly Rs. 38 billion caused by increasing electricity generation costs, which are expected to impact both the current and upcoming quarters.
