SriLanka, Sept. 29 -- Nearly 2,750 people die annually in road accidents in Sri Lanka, causing severe economic damage equivalent to 3 percent to 5 percent of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Transport, Highways, and Urban Development Minister Bimal Rathnayake stated.

The Minister revealed these details yesterday (28) during a press conference held at the Ministry's auditorium at Maganeguma Mahamedura in Koswatta, Battaramulla, organised to create public awareness regarding the introduction of the Driver Demerit Points System.
