Dimuth Bhashitha Atapattu appointed as Director General of Data Protection Authority

Sri Lanka, March 23 -- Dimuth Bhashitha Atapattu has been appointed as the Director General of the Data Protection Authority of Sri Lanka (DPA) with effect from March 5, 2026, according to a media release issued by the Authority.South Asians & Diaspora

The appointment of a permanent Director General marks an important step in strengthening Sri Lanka's personal data protection framework and enforcing the provisions of the Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022, as amended by Act No. 22 of 2025.

Mr. Atapattu, an officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS), brings extensive experience from both the public and private sectors, including several senior management roles.
