Death penalty for drug trafficking considered
Sri Lanka, Aug. 11 -- Attention has been drawn on implementing the death penalty for drug related crimes and offences during the discussions held at the 'Ratama Ekata' National Steering Council, drawing focus to the fact that the menace of drug trafficking has now gone beyond mere personal relationships and is posing a serious threat to the entire economic and social fabric of the country, and that the situation is continuing to grow.
The 'Ratama Ekata' National Steering Council met at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (10) morning under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and discussed this issue.
