Sri Lanka, Oct. 21 -- The death occurred on Monday of veteran journalist Buddy (Brinstan) Guneratne, just 15 days short of his 90th birthday. He joined the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) as a sub editor at the Daily News in 1984 and served in that capacity until 2010, when he retired from the ANCL. He was one of the most proficient sub editors at Lake House, who mentored many novice journalists over the years. His wife Rachel Abeykoon predeceased him and he is survived by brothers Franklin, Ronnie and Noel and sister Jeanne. His funeral took place at the General Cemetery Kanatte yesterday afternoon.
