Sri Lanka, March 3 -- Colombo has become one of the cities with the highest house prices in the world.

Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake said prices of building materials in the country are high with the prices of cement and iron in Sri Lanka being 45 and 75 percent higher compared to other countries in the region.

He said the current tax system in the country has caused the price of building materials to increase and stressed the Government should pay attention to the current tax system.

The NDF MP further said that economic activity can be enhanced by providing relief to the construction sector.
