Sri Lanka, May 4 -- Nineteen local and foreign tourists were rescued from drowning by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) during lifesaving operations across various coastal regions of the island in April.Sri Lankan History

The SLCG operates sixteen lifesaving posts along key tourist attracting beaches. The Coast Guard lifesavers rescued fourteen foreign nationals and five local tourists. Among the rescued individuals were nationals from Australia, France, Germany, India, Russia and Switzerland aged between 5 and 62 years.

Since its establishment in 2010, the Coast Guard lifesavers have successfully rescued 2,629 people including 1,221 foreign nationals.
