Sri Lanka, May 12 -- 'Implementing programmes with active citizen participation and shifting from top-down management to community-led co-existence is essential to reduce the human-elephant conflict (HEC)' Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said yesterday.

He was addressing the Sri Lanka Parliamentary Caucus on Climate held yesterday when he said this.Vietnam Trade Analysis

'The wild elephant has no district boundaries and the human-elephant conflict that has erupted in Kahalla- Pallekele can also affect the Kurunegala, Puttalam, Anuradhapura and Matale districts', the Opposition Leader said. 'Seventy percent of the country's elephants are outside protected areas, so attention should be paid to this issue', he said.
