Sri Lanka, July 15 -- The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday (14) informed the Negombo Magistrate's Court that statements have been recorded from 287 individuals, including prison officials, regarding the recent unrest at the Negombo Prison which resulted in the murder of 10 Police Emergency Tactical Force (Prison Police) officers and 21 inmates.
Presenting a further report on the violent clashes that occurred on the 5th and 6th of this month, Chief Inspector Karunathilake of the CID's Commercial Crimes Division requested the court to issue an order directing the Commissioner General of Prisons to facilitate the recording of statements from all inmates who were detained at the facility during the incident.
