Sri Lanka, March 11 -- The Criminal Investigation Department has commenced an investigation into the shooting death of underworld gang leader Makandure Madush, who was killed by two unidentified gunmen while in the custody of the Colombo Crimes Division.

Police said statements will be recorded from the officers who escorted Madush to Maligawatte on the day of the incident.
