Sri Lanka, July 29 -- The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) arrested a businessman and an associate on charges of soliciting and receiving a Rs. 2 million bribe linked to a Tender for raw food materials for the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital for 2027.

According to the Commission, the suspects had demanded the bribe from the complainant in exchange for withdrawing rival bids they had submitted under the names of the complainant's father and uncle, so as to ensure the complainant would be awarded the 2027 tender. The initial demand of Rs. 3 million was later reduced to Rs. 2.5 million, and then to Rs. 2 million, before the transaction was arranged.
