Sri Lanka, Aug. 11 -- After over a month, the Health Ministry has yet to respond to a complaint seeking an independent investigation into the death of a 21-year-old woman at the Ratnapura General Hospital, amid allegations of possible medical negligence.

The woman's father has urged the Health Minister to immediately launch an independent inquiry into his daughter's death after she was admitted to Ward 13 of the hospital on July 3 with pneumonia.

According to his complaint, the patient's condition deteriorated despite repeated requests from the family for medical attention. He alleged that her complaints of severe chest pain, mouth bleeding, persistent diarrhoea and worsening breathing difficulties were not adequately addressed.
