Sri Lanka, Oct. 13 -- Badulla District Parliamentarian Chamara Sampath Dassanayake was remanded in custody until October 23 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court yesterday (12), following his arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

The Commission said he was arrested over several bribery allegations.

These include soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 1.2 million from one of three gem businessmen, including an advance of Rs. 500,000, and soliciting and accepting bribes of Rs. 1 million and Rs. 200,000 from the other two.

He is also accused of having the Lanka Phosphate Company facilitate phosphate exports exclusively to three selected companies without following a formal procedure. In ...
