Caucus on Climate in Parliament discusses El Nino
Sri Lanka, June 23 -- The Caucus on Climate in Parliament highlighted the severe risks that El Nino and La Nina phenomena could pose to the country's biodiversity, particularly regarding its vulnerable marine life and endemic amphibian ecosystems.
The Caucus, co-chaired by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and NPP MP Prof. L.M. Abeywickrama, who met in Parliament recently, discussed the impact of climate change, especially the El Nino phenomenon, on Sri Lanka's marine ecosystems, coastal zones, biodiversity and the livelihoods of coastal people.
