Sri Lanka, March 4 -- The escalating crisis of crop damage caused by wild animals-including elephants, wild boars, monkeys, and peacocks-has reached a tipping point, threatening rural livelihoods and national food security. Beyond the fields, the increasing frequency of wildlife-human conflicts has led to tragic loss of life and significant property destruction, creating a complex socio-economic challenge.

In response, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands, and Irrigation has developed a comprehensive management program. This initiative is the result of extensive consultations with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, ranging from local farmer organizations and the university community to environmentalists and NGOs.
