Sri Lanka, March 24 -- In the wake of the increase in fuel prices, the Government yesterday (23) took steps to revise public passenger transport fares.
Accordingly, the Cabinet has approved a 12.19 percent increase in bus fares effective from midnight yesterday (23).
Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that with this fare revision, the minimum bus fare, which is currently Rs. 27, will increase to Rs. 30.
The National Transport Commission (NTC) too has pointed out to the need to increase bus fares by more than 10 percent due to the fuel price increases.
