Sri Lanka, March 24 -- The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a program to provide sanitary napkins to adolescent schoolgirls in 2026 in order to support their continuous education.

Under the initiative, approximately 1.05 million girls studying from Grade 6 and above in all government schools and government-aided special schools across the country will benefit.

Each student will receive two vouchers worth Rs. 720 each, totaling Rs. 1,440 per student, enabling them to purchase sanitary napkins based on their preference.

Accordingly, students will be able to purchase either 12 packs containing eight sanitary pads each at Rs. 120 per pack, or eight packs containing 10 sanitary pads each at Rs. 180 per pack within the year.
