Cabinet approves move to increase Retirement Age of Sri Lanka's Judges
Sri Lanka, July 27 -- Cabinet has approved a proposal to increase the retirement age of judges serving in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and other courts by two years.
The proposal will now be referred to the Legal Draftsman for drafting before being submitted to the Attorney General for clearance.
Under the proposed constitutional amendment, the retirement age of Supreme Court judges will be increased from 65 to 67 years, while the retirement age of Court of Appeal judges will be raised from 63 to 65 years.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice is also expected to submit a separate proposal to revise the retirement age of High Court and Magistrates' Court judges. At present, High Court judges retire at 61 years, while Magistrates and...
