Cabinet approves judges' retirement age extension
Sri Lanka, July 28 -- The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to extend the retirement age of judges serving in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal in Sri Lanka by two years, according to Government sources.
The proposal has received Cabinet approval at its meeting held yesterday (27) presided over by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The proposal seeks to extend the retirement age of judges serving in the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.
Under Article 107(5) of the Constitution, the current retirement age of Supreme Court judges is stipulated as 65 years and it is intended under the new proposal to increase that age to 67 years through a Constitutional amendment.
